Habitat
Pompeii worm is referred to as the most fireproof animal on earth because of their core resistance of extreme hot temperature. It is an extremophile found in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean .Pompeii worm are said to be located 2600 meters away from the surface of the ocean, hydrothermal vents ecosystem where these worms are found are formed by mixtures of nutrients and different toxic chemicals such as sulfuric acid and high level of arsenic and cadmium, which builds up on the crust of the earth where hot gases escape (Volcano) giving out enormous heat. One of the hottest vent is called the black smokers, they appear black and gives off black gas.The black smokers form when mineral water, as hot as 350 degrees Celsius, flows out from a volcanic eruption onto the ocean floor. And the heavy mineral crystallization from the hot water forms the chimney like tube where pompeii worm live in. They are said to be able to withstand the 80° C (176° F) temperature, nearly to a boiling water temperature. That's why they are referred to the most fireproof animal on earth. The above is a video link of pompeii worm living in a chimney like column, where the volcano erupts. This underwater volcano has proven to support life of the hydrothermal vent growing population underwater. When the volcano erupts and the heated water is expelled, the bacteria found at the back of pompeii worm go along with it, as well as lots of minerals from rock dissolved by the superheated water. The bacteria are sustained by the warmth from the vent and the minerals, allowing them to multiply.
